What To Know Before You Apply

Membership Comes First

You need an active Sam’s Club membership to apply for a Sam’s Club credit card, along with a valid physical U.S. mailing address. Current standard membership pricing is $60 per year for Club and $120 per year for Plus, before any temporary promotional offer.

Include the membership cost when comparing the card’s potential value. Consider how often you shop at Sam’s Club and whether the reward categories align with purchases you already make.

Rewards Have Caps And Rules

The Sam’s Club Mastercard earns Sam’s Cash on eligible purchases. Current rewards include 5% on eligible gas and EV charging on the first $6,000 per calendar year, then 1%, 3% on dining and takeout, 3% on eligible Sam’s Club purchases for Plus members, 1% for Club members, and 1% on other eligible purchases.

Mastercard cardholders can currently earn up to $5,000 in Sam’s Cash per calendar year through the Mastercard rewards program.

Separately, Plus members can currently earn 2% Sam’s Cash on qualifying Sam’s Club purchases under the Plus membership program, subject to a $750 cap per membership year and the applicable program exclusions.

Sam’s Cash can generally be used toward eligible Sam’s Club and SamsClub.com purchases or membership renewal and can also be redeemed for cash in-club, subject to current program rules.

Interest Can Reduce The Benefit

The Sam’s Club credit cards have variable purchase APRs. Carrying a balance can reduce or outweigh the value of Sam’s Cash earned through card spending.

Review Synchrony’s current rates and fees before applying. Paying the full statement balance by the due date can help avoid purchase interest, subject to your account terms.

Start In 3 Steps

  1. Confirm that you have an active Sam’s Club membership and a valid physical U.S. mailing address.
  2. Review how the Mastercard and Sam’s Club Credit Card consideration process works.
  3. Use the official Sam’s Club credit application or prequalification process if you decide to proceed.

Compare The Two Possible Card Outcomes

When you apply or check whether you prequalify, Synchrony first considers you for the Sam’s Club Mastercard. If you are not approved for or do not prequalify for the Mastercard, you may then be considered for the Sam’s Club Credit Card.

The Mastercard earns Sam’s Cash on eligible purchases and can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The Sam’s Club Credit Card does not earn ongoing Sam’s Cash card rewards and is accepted at Sam’s Club and Walmart.

Synchrony currently offers a prequalification option that can show whether you prequalify without affecting your credit score. A full application remains subject to credit approval.

How Does It Work?

You Review The Two Card Products

The Sam’s Club Mastercard provides Mastercard network acceptance and category-based Sam’s Cash rewards. It currently has no annual card fee, although an active Sam’s Club membership is required to apply.

The Sam’s Club Credit Card also has no annual card fee and can be used at Sam’s Club and Walmart, but it does not earn ongoing Sam’s Cash through the credit-card rewards program.

Review the differences before applying so you understand the possible card outcome.

You Submit The Application Or Check Prequalification

Use the official Sam’s Club credit page to apply or review the available prequalification option.

When you apply or check prequalification, you are first considered for the Sam’s Club Mastercard. If that result does not qualify for the Mastercard, Synchrony may then consider you for the Sam’s Club Credit Card.

Checking prequalification currently does not affect your credit score. A full application is subject to Synchrony’s credit approval process.

You Manage Rewards And Payments

If approved, Synchrony’s online account tools allow you to review transactions and statements, make payments, and manage account alerts and other available settings.

Eligible Mastercard Sam’s Cash is issued according to the rewards-program billing cycle and is automatically associated with your Sam’s Club membership.

Review your Sam’s Cash balance, current category rules, exclusions, and account standing before relying on a specific reward amount.

Apply With Clear Expectations

A Sam’s Club credit card may be worth considering when your normal Sam’s Club, gas, EV charging, and dining spending aligns with the current reward structure. Membership costs, APR, rewards caps, exclusions, and the possibility of receiving the non-rewards Sam’s Club Credit Card should all be part of the comparison.

Review current Sam’s Club and Synchrony terms, compare other cards based on your actual spending, and use the official application or prequalification process only if the product fits your budget and repayment plan.
